first estimates from our Politicians-----

Domestic sugar production in the marketing year that started in October is expected to be around 29-million tonnes, up one-million tonnes from year-earlier, said Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar. This projection is much lower than production estimates doled out by sugar industry and global trading companies which peg India's sugar output in the current marketing year at between 30-million tonnes and 33-million tonnes. However, Pawar said, India has started the new marketing year with sugar stocks of 11.9-million tonnes, or over 60% of annual consumption.

is it the same as last year????? He started with estimates of 22.5 mmt for 2006-07 and which eventually urned out to be at 28.5 mmt. Industry estimates are in the range of 30mmt to 33.5 mmt....
